Cowboy Technologies is the for-profit new venture arm of OSU. Cowboy Technologies, LLC, makes returns-based investments in internal OSU technology development projects and growth startups affiliated with OSU, including those licensing OSU intellectual property. We also prepare and position our portfolio startups to successfully raise commercial grant funding from federal agency SBIR/STTR, Oklahoma OCAST grants and others, in addition to equity-based capital from our network of aligned venture capital partners.

Commercial Grant Assistance and Startup Business Management

Cowboy Technologies, LLC provides select OSU-affiliated startups with decades of fiscal and business leadership and management experience in navigating the complexities of formation, registration, legal, fiscal and business operations, and federal and state commercial grant funding.  For a small, minority co-founding equity stake in a startup, Cowboy Technologies will invest its time and expertise in a startup’s co-founding team through a trusted and valued partnership, to see the successful translation of innovations through to venture-backable and scalable startups in Oklahoma.

Cowboy Technologies provides investment into commercially viable OSU and OSU-affiliated technology-based startups and OSU internal projects with strong commercial teams. We are OSU’s most aligned investment partner. Investment vehicles include:
  • OSU internal project convertible equity investment
  • Startup pre-seed and seed convertible equity and priced equity investment
  • Riata Pre-Seed Fund, a student-specific managed fund

Plasma Bionics, LLC

Utilizing patented technology licensed from OSU, Plasma Bionics LLC provides its Air Plasma Sterilization® device to veterinarians (hospitals, doctors, and dentists in the future) to rapidly destroy microorganisms on heat sensitive instrument surfaces, at low temperature, without chemical consumables, no byproducts, all at a lower cost compared ethylene oxide (EO), and vaporized hydrogen peroxide (VHP) sterilization devices.

Weaver Labs, LLC

Weaver Labs is a water technology company focused on addressing the global PFAS contamination crisis. Founded by OSU professor Jimmie Weaver, a globally recognized expert on organoflourine synthesis, the company started out by providing custom compound synthesis and intellectual property with expertise in fluorinated compounds. Upon designing a proprietary, regenerative, tailored adsorbent to specifically target PFAS, the company is now laser-focused to deliver superior PFAS removal from water at the lowest life-cycle costs.
