Mission

Postdoctoral scholars directly contribute to an institution’s overall research productivity, and the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs highlights OSU’ commitment to this community of scholars. Our mission is to strengthen postdoctoral training and guide scholars toward successful careers in research. A supportive environment for postdocs helps with recruitment efforts and enhances their research impact while at OSU.

 

Goals

• Provide resource information to postdoctoral fellows
  • Establish a platform for sharing resource materials
  • Offer guidance on where to go if/when issues arise
• Offer resources to OSU department heads and faculty supervisors who hire postdocs
  • Support faculty members in recruiting postdoctoral scholars
  • Provide guidance on what to include in and how to craft the mentoring section required on grant applications for the Individual Development Plan (IDP)
  • Offer suggestions on mentoring postdoctoral scholars and implementing an IDP
• Build a sense of community and belonging among the postdoctoral fellows
  • Offer networking opportunities among postdoctoral fellows so they may connect with one another
• Arrange professional development opportunities targeting the needs of postdoctoral fellows
  • Academic job preparation workshops, grant proposal writing workshops, etc.
