How Postdocs are Defined at OSU
From the Policy Statement to Govern Matters of the Oklahoma State University Faculty
Postdoctoral Fellows are considered Career-Track faculty members with temporary appointments of no more than three years.
Specifically, from Section 1.5.7.6.3 of the Policy Statement, Postdoctoral Fellows are defined as:
Individuals who hold an earned doctorate and temporarily affiliate with the university to pursue additional scholarly work may be appointed as post-doctoral fellows. Persons holding this title are normally compensated from funds made available through research grants or contracts. Postdoctoral Fellows are not normally assigned to teach regularly scheduled classes although they may provide occasional instruction in subjects and techniques in which they have specialized expertise. Appointments are to be made for a term of one year or less. Normally a Post-Doctoral Fellow would not be appointed for more than three (3) years, however, exceptions may be granted by the unit administrator and dean.
