Supervisor On-boarding Checklist for Postdocs
Supervisor's To-Do List:

Request that the Postdoc be added to the departmental phone list, faculty email list, department listsevs, etc.

Request that the Postdoc be given a physical department mail box (with those of other department faculty)

Request appropriate/necessary computer and IT systems access

Explain how to acquire office and lab supplies

Give the Postdoc a tour of the department, building, and campus

Give the Postdoc pertinent office/department policy and procedure documents

Provide information on how Postdocs track/account for leave taken

Provide information on how to acquire a campus ID card

Request building access, if applicable (via ID card or physical keys)

Provide links to campus maps

Share information about campus parking permits

Share resources on creating an Individual Development Plan (IDP)

Explain procedures for travel requests and travel vouchers (reimbursements)

Review required training for Postdocs (e.g., CITI Responsible Conduct of Research Training)

Arrange for yourself of a work colleague to have coffee or lunch with the Postdoc

Arrange introductions to other employees during the first week

Review the department's organizational chart with the Postdoc and explain the department's relation to the college and other units.

Review the Postdoc's position responsibilities and expectations; discuss expected work schedule

Schedule time to meet and discuss the Postdoc's IDP
