Biohazardous Agents: Humans, Animals, Plants

Activities involving Risk Group 2 or Risk Group 3 biohazardous agents must be reviewed and approved by the IBC prior to the initiation of the project. Risk group classification information can be found on the ABSA website.

A class designation is assigned to each biological agent based on the risk of acquiring the disease and the degree of severity from the disease. Regardless of the Risk Group classification, the appropriate biosafety level is determined through a risk assessment. The BMBL 6th Edition provides additional information about determinating the appropriate biosafety level.

Complete the protocol registration form for using biological agents and submit it to the Office of University Research Compliance in 223 Scott Hall. This office will coordinate review by the IBC.
