Protocols that are classified at biosafety level 2 or biosafety level 3 are subject to renewal every three years either through protocol review or through the use of the modification form. Protocols that are classified as exempt recombinant or synthetic nucleic acid molecules or BSL-1 research are subject to renewal every five years. Research involving select agents are subject to review and approval each year. Investigators and instructors will be notified of the protocol expiration date at the time the project is approved. It is the investigator’s responsibility to ensure a protocol is current.
