Security Risk Assessment

All individuals who work with or have direct access to select agents and toxins must first successfully complete a security risk assessment, which is conducted by the FBI. The security risk assessment (SRA) evaluates if an individual is a restricted person, based on the criteria of the U. S. PATRIOT Act. Individuals other than those with direct access to select agents and toxins may be required to complete a security risk assessment or background check. That decision is based on the individual’s role and responsibilities. The assessment process is administered by the Alternate Responsible Officials. The Alternate Responsible Officials are the Assistant Vice President for Research Compliance and the Biological Safety Officer (223 Scott Hall). Individuals who do not have SRA approval, such as vendors, must be accompanied in select agent facilities at all times by a person with an approved security risk assessment.
